These were judged unsafe by the Consumer Product Safety Commission about 20 years ago because some really little kid walked in front of another kid swinging, got hit hard and died. As a result, almost all were dismantled or the ponies replaced with regular swings. Apparently the agency thinks its job is to suck all the happiness out of this world. Isn't there the same risk with any kind of swing? Does that mean all swings everywhere should be banned?
Todays playgrounds are so safe and boring, there pratically wrapped in bubble tape.

Good point! You can get kicked in the head with hard soled shoes walking in front of someone swinging and be seriously injured by the kick or the fall, or both. Another example of a child's caregiver not doing their job and passing the blame off on the equipment. I was wondering what happened to all these park horse swings I used to see. They were fun to swing on!
