Firstly the Pope does not play God. He provides spiritual guidance.
The Church was bullied by nation states before Pope Gregory who insisted on celebrate priests and high moral and religious standards and the giving up of personal wealth by bishops. However the tension still continued after his death when one pope was imprisoned by Henry IV of Northern Germany.
The Church was not perfect but stood up on the vast majority of occasions to wrong doing & tyrants.

The Pope actually believes he the successor to Apostle Paul. He also believes that he has been given full authority by God to play God. Pair that up with centuries of evidence that demonstrates the abuses of priests toward nuns and children. You cannot ignore the documented facts. Also, the shockingly explicit details in the Bible that describes the Pope and his church as the Antichrist. They own all world leaders and armies for what will soon be the next stage in End Days. Deception 100%.
