Sierra Club Executive Director Carl Pope and Chevron CEO Dave O'Reilly debate the future of energy policy. Pope says the White House is finally in on climate change, but "Congress doesn't get it."

-----

Chevron and the Sierra Club both see renewable fuels as a growing part of our future. Yet as the world transitions to a low-carbon economy, they have different views on how that change should occur and who should bear the costs.

Higher taxes? Voluntary conservation and efficiency? Government mandates?

In their first-ever public conversation, O'Reilly and Pope discuss balancing energy and the environment in the 21st century. - The Commonwealth Club of California

Carl Pope is the Executive Director of the Sierra Club, an American environmental organization founded by conservationist pioneer John Muir in 1892. Pope was appointed to his position as Executive Director in 1992, the club's centennial.

  • Go to vdare(dot)com or numbersusa to find out info on immigration and overpopulation, forget about Sierra club, they want you to ride a bike and change your lightbulbs but never mention millions of immigrants driving our population to the sky. They sold out!!

  • Sierra Club sold out on immigration in 2004 David Gelbaum, who made millions on Wall Street, contributed $101 million to the Sierra Club. Gelbaum warned the club if they ever came out anti-immigration, they would never get a dollar from me.

Why go Green or ride a bike or have few children and let the government import millions of immigrants that will each have a dozen kids and make you pay for them?

We need an immigration moratorium if we care about the environment. Sierra club Sucks!

  • 2/2 Cap and Trade (American Power Act) would increase taxes on the average household up to $3200 according to the RNC gas prices increase by $2.58 a gallon according to George C. Marshall Institute. With Obama demanding the cessation of offshore drilling gas prices are expected to increase yet another $5 a gallon, because we would grow dependent upon foreign nations we are not allies with in order to provide our oil. They would price gouge w/ gas prices increasing to $10/gal!

  • 1/2 Leading Climate Scientist John R. Christy researched two independent data sets, weather balloon and satellite. He found from this information gathered from the bulk of the atmosphere that climate change was neither catastrophic nor anthropogenic. He also stated that increase in surface temperatures in the cities were because of pavement, concrete and structures. It’s not the result of greenhouse gases.

  • @1800123456TM wrong, he is the first marxist president we have ever had. cant wait to see him go along with all of the other radical progressives in his camp.

  • the whole solar system is warming because we are passing through a photon belt. No amount of tax is going to effect this.

  • The Americian People must understand exactly what is happening here and it must be given to them in laymans terms. President Barack Obama will do this just be patient as he is the first American President that is really for the people and down to earth. The Media need also to be patient with Barack Obama and less critical of him as there is alot going on at the moment for him. Excellent Video and full Marks. Barack Obama the best genuine American President that the United States has ever had.

  • Ralajer,

Agree, 20 years or maybe more.

  • UnderseaCaveman: I've heard and read about several studies that algae, bacteria and fungi can be converted to fuel or produce fuel as a byproduct of their metabolism. Those stories are quite interesting but I bet those things are going to take few decades to implement if they ever really workout.

In the full program they seemed to believe that any radical changes to the transportation system would take 20 years or to deploy but one can hope to see change in one's lifetime.
