I can agree with several points, but chemistry? Most characters hardly interact, and if they do, they have only couple of lines.
Starwolf and Starfox had way better chemistry in Assault, because really, beyond Pigma and Peppy, none of the 64 Starwolf members have chemistry at all.

I believe it's partly that people want to justify Lylatwars being better in every way, since they like that game more. Hence the story gets blasted along with everything else.

Wolf I can sorta see as the classic "Work with enemy because of an even bigger menace out there", but for the most part you do bring up good points. I can agree that sometimes the most basic of stories can turn out to be better. Especially since Assault just WHAM gave us a huge big story, rather than slowly building it in increments.
But I think most agree that Assault and its story may be bad or mediocre, but it is A class material compared to Command.

@nepomusik Starfox 64 has a classic adventure like story tied in with revenge. What makes the story so fun to follow is not the general flow of the plot, but the universe behind it. All of the characters in Starfox 64 do not attempt to be complex, but are all interesting with stronger chemistry. I can agree that Assault tried more with a story, but every attempt felt shallow or out of place. Like Wolf being so nice to Fox is something I find totally out of character for Wolf.

People seem to harp on about the story of Assault. But I wonder...
64's story seemed rather simple, with the backstory of James and all that. But the story here seems to have a lot more going on about it, with character development, a Borg like enemy, etc.
So how come people blast Assault's story? Do people just hate that suddenly Star Fox is more than just blowing shit up, or is it just the nostalgia goggles?
