Leadbelly John Henry Last Sessions

Huddie "Leadbelly" or "Lead Belly" Ledbetter does a version of "John Henry," explaining his version of the song's origins.

This is taken from his "Last Sessions," recorded in late 1948, in New York City. The 'Mr. Lomax' mentioned is either John or his son Alan, both of whom discovered and visited Leadbelly while he was serving a sentence at Angola Prison Farm, Louisiana

I learned about Leadbelly in school. People might do a double take on that but this music is of extreme cultural relevance. Amazing stuff.

That sometimes happens on YouTube. Nobody has forgotten Lead, don't worry. I just wish magazines that educate the masses nowadays do more like educate them about guys like Lead. YouTube does a better job than all music magazines nowadays. The music business used to be real before.

Hooray for Youtube ! I used ti spend hours listening to old recordings at the local folk club den in the 70's . Diligently copying onto tapes. Lent my tapes to someone in Australia and never saw them again . Heartbroken. Now here those recordings are again at a touch of a button on my Iphone . Hellelujha! My god Lead Belly !!!! Keep loading them on..
