This is what reverse sneezing looks like in small breeds. This could also mean other things but in Sparkey's case it is reverse sneezing. you can check with your vet to be sure.

  • Thank you for posting this. It is NOT cruel at all...but educational. The first time your Maltese does this, it scares the crap out of you and cost alot of money rushing them to an emergency vet just to learn that it's QUITE COMMON for the BREED.

So THANK you...and boy do I wish I had seen this before coughing up the 200 bones to be told he's absolutely FINE. :)

  • @MochaMoguls thank you

  • Sparkey boy, I love and miss you <3 sending you tones of kisses

    hugs

  • @katkoota Snowy & Crystal, the coolest malts in the world. we miss you too. ~Sparkey

  • @emberrozay I'm sorry but I needed a video to show my vet while petting him would not do anything for him to get some answers. But I don't believe in stopping it anyway, imagine you want to sneeze and someone comes and plugs your nose up. If you notice at around 1:12 I asked him if he is ok and petted him and stopped. I think it's cruel not to try and find out what is causing it. My vet was very happy that I did this because I couldn't explain to him before. But I understand how you feel.

  • Thanks for posting! Was so scared when maltese dog did that until I saw this vid.

  • Thank you so much! Mine does the same thing. He checked out 100% healthy at the vet but I still worried until now.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I have a female Maltese that just turned a year old in December. The first time she did this is scared the crap out of me so I've been searching the web and Youtube videos to see if someone explained this and if their dog was doing the same thing! It still makes me nervous when she does this and I will be making a vet appt for her! Again, thank you for posting this video!

  • my dog is another breed but he is small, he does this all the time and scares the crap out of us. thank u so much for taking the time to post this!

  • I am so relieved I saw this!! Thank you so much for posting this! My 5 month old shih tzu just did this sound and I was freaking out. I thought it was something really bad. So again, THANK YOU! :)

  • My maltese does this too. It scares me very much =(, because he is barely going to be a year old. Strange thought cause he only does this before we go to bed.

  • My Maltese has been doing this all her life. Not nearly as loud or severe as your dog, but she does it, especially after running across the house to greet us, she's 15 now and still very healthy for her age :)!

  • i think your dog has patella luxation from the limping

  • He looks like my dog

  • Thank you so much for posting this!!! I have a Shih Tzu Terrier mix and she has done this on and off since I got her almost 10 months ago. I figured it was asthma or something, It would only happen certain times, when she gets most excited. When I had to take her to the vet last because she was sick, I mentioned it and she told me to youtube a video about reverse sneezing to see if thats what she was doing. And thankfully your video helped confirm it! :-)
