  • i`ve been through exactly that...man its kind of scary seeing this

  • Do you feel it was a success? If so, how long did it take for you to completely heel?

  • i just had mine done yesterday

it hurts quite bad now as i expected it would,

how painfull was it for you ?

i know everyone is diferent but

mine is really swollen and very painfull

    when even moving it slightly

  • Yes it was very painful. Keep the ice on constantly and keep your weight off of it. I had mine done on May 27 of this year and I would say up until the end of September I was still a little "handicapped" for a lack of better words. It works though, but you gotta do physical therapy.

  • Depends on what mean by "recover". I did not go to physical therapy like I should have. It took me about 9 months to where I could actually lift, run, etc and not telll a difference. Ice is your friend and keep your elevation. Best advice I can give. No for my wife, she was up and running around in no time.

  • May I ask you a question? How long did it take you to recover? I had this done exactly one week ago and I have lots of swelling and limited movement, my ankle and knee are both swollen and I am keeping my leg in an elevated position, can you recomend me some tricks for healing quicker? thnx

  • My wife and I both had the lateral release done. She healed very quickly. It took me a little longer since my knee is bigger and more tissue had to be operated on. Of course you are ansthetics when its performed so you dont feel, but you are sore afterwards of course. Best advice...ice is your friend and dont pass up physical therapy.

  • I had this done... I dislocated my knee 9 years ago...and just had surgery on it in August...took me about 3 1/2 months to recover fully from physical therapy. I don't have many problems with it as I once did...but i do have arthritis in my knees at a very young at of 17.

  • I'm only 19 but I have played volleyball all my life and every time I bend my knees crack like crazy and in September 2007, My first semester of college, I was dancing and fell and ended up dislocating my left knee cap, a piece of my cartilage broke off, and a few other things too..anyways had to have knee surgery on my left knee and my knee cap was all rough like yours on the underside. Knee surgery sucks especially while trying to do college and going to PT, it was a rough first semester.

  • was your first successfully...i read in internet and i found no encouraging info...i should do LR to both my knees...hehe

  • I just got a lateral release on my right knee. Compared to my last surgery (repairing a severed patella on my left knee) this one has been a piece of cake. Keep working on your range of motion! Scar tissue is not your friend.

  • The lateral release is really not a bad surgery at all. I had my patella severed on my left knee from the right side, and the surgery to correct that was painful and the PT was really awful as well. I just got a lateral release on my right knee and so far it's a lot more bearable. Just make sure you're bending your knee and getting your range of motion back. Scar tissue is not your friend!

  • I am about to have my second lateral release, thanks for sharing this video....it is cool to see what they actually do. Hope the surgery turned out well for you.

  • btw my right knw is my stronger leg and i did a vast amount of pre op preperations

i did alot of muscle work before hand and i feel this might benafit me in the long run as i didnt prepare for my first operation and my quad muscle deterioated to the point of nothing and i have nerve damage causeing my thigh to be totaly numb and no signs of it coming back as its been like that since 4 weeks post op

on the whole i do feel good improvments in terms of movment of my knee :)
