Most of these hits are outlawed today because most of the players now are much stronger, faster and heavier. It's pure physics. If guys today were still dishing it out like this, there would be at least one game stopping.. ambulance-on-the-field injury in practically every game. The old guys were mean tough bastards, but a majority of them  from the mid 70's and back could not even make the roster in today's game. There are some exceptions, but that's a fact.
