In Labyrinth Zone Act 3, get to this spot. Make a savestate when the drowning countdown begins. Jump up and hit the rotating spike ball at exactly the right time. You are hit up and out of the water, which logically should end the drowning countdown. However...

I found this glitch while playing Sonic 1: Return to the Origin.

  • it never switches the flag to "above water" because you were in hit-stun and didn't touch un-watered ground (both reset the flag)

    in-game logic always makes sense... of COURSE giving a dragon god a rat tail will grant you much strength!
