MISHA PIATIGORSKY OCTET. October 13, 2009. Iridium Jazz Club, New York City, USA. www.iridiumjazz.com.

A captivating evening it was, filled with wonderfully written pieces by MISHA PIATIGORSKY who managed to unleash rich, luscious notes through any one of his compositions, be it Straight-ahead, Samba, Blues and/or Third Stream. Mr. Piatigorsky assembled a group of sensational musicians and together, the Octet was abundant with talent!

Composing on the spot as they performed their solos, the musicians at times seemed to be in a bubble of their own. However, unmistakable professionalism from each artist was evident through the cohesive, alluring sounds they delivered under the clear direction of band leader, MISHA PIATIGORSKY.

'Twas kickin' at the Iridium that night .................

Piano, composition, arrangement: MISHA PIATIGORSKY. Tenor & soprano saxophones, percussion: PETER BRAININ. Clarinet, bass clarinet, flute: DOUGLAS YATES. Trumpet, flugelhorn: TATUM GREENBLATT. Trombone: ANDY HUNTER. Guitar: GILAD HEKSELMAN. Bass: DANTON BOLLER. Drums: RUDY ROYSTON.

  • doug yates this is your old room mate at Berklee Michael Thomas. Wassssss Up?

  • Excellent composition, feeling the melody

drum rim shot distracting at first, but later drum echo effect good

guitarist melodic as usual good, tone excellent

Needs bass solo maybe flute, shorter solos

Composition needs a short Major C section, then a masterpiece- needs a mood break

  • 6:33!!! yeah
