We loaned one of our larger plasma ball spheres to the Supanova Pop Culture convention to see what people would make of it. Seemed like a good theme for the event since Supanova is all about pop culture, scifi, VFX and Anime.

the glass contains a mixture of inert gases like argon and krypton. when these gases are excited with electricity (coming from that metal rod in the center) they glow. if you take the glass off, the gas will diffuse away and all you'll have is that metal rod doing nothing exciting. in short, that glass is absolutely necessary for it to function.

well if it exploded it would hurt u because of the glass and other thing but I dont think the the plasma would hurt you because ive seen someone touching it directly and it didn't do anything, but it probably felt weird
