Suffering Zimbabwe

The southern African Nation of Zimbabwe is suffering from massive inflation, rampant poverty and a 90 percent unemployment rate. But when people try to speak out against the situation and the current government under President Robert Mugabe, they say they are subjected to harassment, arrest and even beatings.

The International Red Cross estimates more than 2 million people are hungry in Zimbabwe, and that the number is going to rise to 5 million, about half the country's population, by the end of the year.

The country's political crisis has also created the world's worst inflation - at nearly 11 million per cent.

Prior to land reform, an estimated 320,000 to 350,000 farm workers were employed on commercial farms owned by about 4,500 white farmers. Their dependents numbered around 2 million - more than 20 percent of the national population!!

They have lost their entitlement to housing on the farms, . Those who have not left for urban centres have been forced to subsist through gold panning , many acing starvation and can be found sleeping and begging on the streets of Harare.

2005 US Senate hearing on Zimbabwe, Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Chester Crocker said this ''To separate the Zimbabwean pple from ZANU-PF we're going to make their economy scream(remember Salvador Allende?)and i hope you Senators have the stomach for what you have to do''. The only way forward is to take care of the vital problems such as Robert Mugabe take him out of power first. One bullet can make a difference. It is madness what he has done to such a great nation when Ian Smith was in power we had control and freedom now we see curruption at every end of the country people dying and whites being perscuted for their ansestors misstakes. The world should try real, foolproof sanctions that are not directed against the country but the regime, the few hundred people at the top. Freeze their bank accounts, make it impossible for them to travel anywhere, revoke the visas of their children who are studying abroad. Let them, not ordinary Zimbabweans, pay for Mugabe's crim
