Monica-Jean makes a year's supply of Elderberry tincture for the whole family in just five minutes... for far less than store bought, and much more fun, economical, and empowering too. Elder berry tincture is excellent at soothing sore thoat, easing cold and flu symptoms, and for prevention of illness in winter months. Here from Susun Weed: Elder is known to be an amazing immune system tonic. Half a glass of elder berry wine when you feel a cold or flu coming on is far more effective than taking echinacea. If you don't have enough berries to make wine, you could use: elder flower champagne, elder berry jelly, elder flower pancakes, elder berry vinegar, elder flowers in honey, elder bark tincture, elder berry honey, elder flower tea, elder berry tincture, elder flower tincture, elder root tincture (You must be in very, very good communication with elder before you dare to touch her root.) • Does the tincture need to be stored at a certain temperature? I live in Phoenix and sometimes the temp in our house can be around 82. Would I be better off keeping ticures in the fridge?

  • @celtic721 - should not need refrigeration....alcohol is a good preservative....but light (sunshine) will damage the quality of the medicines...so do keep your tinctures in a dark cool place such as in a cupboard or basement if possible.

  • victoria, we harvest as much as we can...but with two full time jobs and a small child, sometimes getting things done can be a challenge..sometimes we do rely on commercial herbs from reliable sources and we are not ashamed to admit it...we do have a youtube video of making elder berry tincture from the bush in our backyard....

  • Where do you buy those jars from?

  • @BeanIrene we get our mason jars from a hardware store - normally this size (half gallon) needs to be special ordered.

  • she is developing into quite the little herbalists and she has good attention to detail too....we can't wait for spring to come.....its been a long cold winter in upstate NY.

  • Hi there I was wondering if there was a certain amt say you have a quart or pint, often a cup of herbs is mentioned in the infusion video's. Is there another kind of alcohol one can use? I am allergic to vodka. How does one use this tincture mentions for a cold but how much do you take of the tincture? an adult? a child? I have a very sickly asthmatic at home who get so sick every year she misses many days of school and past giving her vitamins I have never known what can help this girls immun
