Still the most compforatble train running on our network today - and still the fastest diesel train in the world, having achieved a top speed of 143mph.
The new IEP dielsel/electric/hybrid rubbish that the Govt is propsing will never match this superb piece of engineering.
Tis truly was "the age of the train" as Sir Jimmy told us!

well for me this was the downward spiral of the rail industry, give me the 70s diesels anytime , the best era, late 60s/70s

@stepheng1483 I really like this train when I travelled to Bristol. But until they do some renovation or create something better, somebody else will. For example, class 395s.

Intercity 125s wipe the floor with the much more modern voyagers. 125s are silky smooth and whisper quiet compared with voyagers, which are noisy, rattly and jerky, oh, and it's British too.
Britain should still be designing and building our own trains, we had a golden oppourtunity to recently, but traitor Brown gave the contract to Japan.

Has nobody noticed that the music from about 1 min in sounds exactly like Star wars AND that the component being craned at 1'12" looks exactly like the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon?
But this film was apparently made in 1976 BEFORE the release of Star Wars!

does anyone know how much an intercity 125 with coaches would roughly cost? becuase i would love my own train company.

hah umm at a rough guess comming on for a million .. 8 coaches is alot and 2 power cars.. ask grand central haha
