1. Because it's basically a drag car

2. it's probably cheaper in the long term to run the auto, since if it was manual he'd be blowing gearboxes all the time. With an auto, you can get really strong ones that're optimum for drag and yeah.

(don't know all that much about drag or auto's but just using what i've heard etc.)
