Alright I realize that this video is not as interesting as Day Four ;) but I tried.
I had a late start to the day. I felt really sluggish so I took my time. After realizing that I won't be able to make it through the rain wearing a tank and shorts, I decided to... prepare.
I walked through Nishiki Fish Market, which was a big covered street stocked with beautiful Japanese crafts and souveniers (and fish). I had lunch for $1.30 CAD! Potatoes, mm.
I tried to kill time by weaving through the little streets in Kyoto. They were very interesting, because they look quite unattractive in the afternoon but once the sun sets... well watch the video to find out :)
I visited my first shrine today. I had no idea how to bow or pray or anything, so I left it to the people who actually knew what it meant. I'm going to do some research tomorrow and try my first prayer the next time I see a shrine.
Gion is fantastic! It's known as a Geisha Town, and apparently it is what Kyoto is known for. Memoirs of a Geisha was set in Kyoto, with part of it being in Gion (they call it the pleasure district).
I got another massage, although it was a lot rougher than the one back in Shibuya. Good grief, there were markings all over my body from the cloth being pressed into my skin!!! It was quite harsh, but it felt good and he gave me tea and chocolate later. I had no idea how late it actually was until I got home. I only had my "four items" with me so I lost track of time. And space. Unfortunately, that added to the problem of getting home early.
I went home and I had to pack up. My stuff was sprawled out everywhere because I'm naturally messy. If I live in a place for more than 2 days, it will take me half a day to clean it up. So I did a 12 hour job in 4 hours, and started making this video at around 3am. I finished at 5am, so the editting here isn't my best.
Something horrible happens on Day Six as a result of Day Five. Watch later, when I finish editting ;)
If anyone EVER stays in Kyoto, find Watazen Ryokan. I found out it really was a ryokan (I mentioned earlier that it probably isn't) because it will be well worth your money. Good times!
