@mlensenm Curtains were used when showing a movie had real showmanship. Now you have to suffer through a barrage of endless advertisements before a movie begins...it's all about making a buck...not showmanship.
@rjdisn1 I agree. I would love to see all of the great large film format films made available in this format. If you watch How the West Was Won in SmileBox on a 3d tv and use the simulated 3d mode it actually seems that you have a curved screen coming out of your living room wall. So many great films were shot in 70mm and it's a shame to have to view them in a flat panel format.
The restoration of this amazing film has been a well-kept secret from the tall ship fraternity. Why so? Screenings have not been well-publicised, there have been no screenings at tall ship festivals, and no DVD is available. Why are the 700mm fraternity keeping this to themselves? Not good.
The Kinopanorama Widescreen Preservation Association Inc would like to express our appreciation to David Strohmaier, in particular, for his tireless work in restoring this iconic film and for engaging John Steven Lasher to interview Seven Erik Libaek for the Blu-ray and DVD releases. Ros Pratch
Fantastic. I can't believe how beautiful this movie looks. I have waited for this for such a long time. I can't wait till the movie is out on dvd, which is suppose to happen sometime in the fall. Thanks so much for posting!
