I am a master gardener as well as being a gardener as a day job. Marigolds are useful for organic gardens.The primary thing that they deter is nematodes which are very small worms that occur in soil heartworms and hookworms are also nematodes most people may be more familiar with these.There is a commercially available cultivar of Marigolds specifically for addressing nematodes called nemagone.
