Paolo SOLERI - (1953) - SOLIMENE Ceramic's Factory (Vietri - Italy)

Paolo Soleri was awarded in architecture from the Torino Polytechnico in 1946. He came to the United States in 1947 and spent a year and a half in fellowship with Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesin West in Arizona. He returned to Italy in 1950, here he built a camper, Leoncino, on a small car frame and traveled down to Vietri sul Mare on the Amalfi Coast (40°40'16.58"N - 14°43'52.55"E), south of Naples, to study ceramics. Here was commissioned to design and build a large ceramics factory, "Artistica Ceramica Solimene " http://www.solimene.com/ in 1953. After turn in Arizona where he is intent to build in an urban laboratory its ideal city "Arcosanti" http://arcosanti.org/ (34°20'33.30"N - 112° 6'1.97"O), following the Arcology, the concept of ecological human habitats, that's exploring an alternative urban development in the age of environmental crisis.

Paolo Soleri dopo essersi laureato in architettura al Politecnico di Torino nel 1946 si trasferisce negli Stati Uniti dove trascorre un anno e mezzo come allievo di Frank Lloyd Wright a Taliesin West in Arizona. Ritorna in Italia nel 1950 dove si costruisce un piccolo camper, chiamato Leoncino, su una piccola macchina e viaggia lungo l'Italia, fino ad arrivare a sud di Napoli, a Vietri sul Mare sulla costiera amalfitana (40°40'16.58"N - 14°43'52.55"E), con l'intenzione di imparare l'arte della ceramica. Qui si sofferma e progetta una delle sue opere più belle e concrete, la Fabbrica di Ceramiche SOLIMENE http://www.solimene.com/ nel 1953. Dopo si trasferisce di nuovo in Arizona dove è intento a costruire in un laboratorio urbano, la sua città ideale Arcosanti http://arcosanti.org/ (34°20'33.30"N - 112° 6'1.97"O), seguendo il suo concetto di Arcology, cioè habitat umani ed ecologici, città dove lui sperimenta un alternativo sviluppo umano nell'età di crisi ambientale.
