Today we (Gene-myself-John-Bonnie & Joe) paddled south along the Myakka River and back from Snooks Haven-7 miles total. The water was perfectly flat during most of the paddle and the weather superb. We didn't spot any gators which was surprising along this stretch of river. Bonnie's choice to go South was well advised as we only saw one other kayaker the entire trip. The area Northof Snooks is much more heavily populated. On the way back some storm clouds gathered which made for fantastic views. We were caught in a rainstorm about 45 minutes from our launch and it really came down! Fortunately we made it back before any lightening occurred-we were all drenched and there was a mass exodus at the launch area of everyone who had been on the river. Because I always seem to get wet I had brought a change of clothing-YAY! so I was dry and eating my fruit/cherries and watermelon that I have brought to share on the way home.
