Jackie Dycke Norris addresses SUNY Geneseo's Women in Leadership Conference, March 2011.
Norris says she has learned a lot of lessons on her journey in politics. She returned to campus March 2, 2011 to share some of them with students as the keynote speaker at the third annual Women in Leadership Conference.
Norris was President Obama's senior adviser for the Iowa caucus campaign during the election, and First Lady Michelle Obama's first chief of staff. Norris has moved into the position of senior adviser at the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal organization promoting service and volunteerism. At the conference, she emphasized "The Power of You" and the importance of a positive attitude. Norris said students need to get involved and take risks.
Norris was one of eight alumni in media, finance, corporate consulting, college athletics and other fields who discussed challenges confronting women serving in leadership roles at the event. The conference is one of dozens of events throughout the year in which alumni mentor students.
