Susan's wonderful, but I like Lee Ann Larkin's interpretation better. I saw her on Broadway and she was able to find the harmony between the fun frivolousness on Petra's surface, and the sadness and lack of control over the inevitability of her life. She can fantasize all she wants but she knows that her future is a quiet predictably desperate life. It was incredibly erie watching her because you felt elation at the same time you felt a tightness in your gut. I <3 Sondheim.

One of my favorite songs. I think I even prefer it to many versions of "Send in the Clowns".

Erery recording has that bizzare Ding after "...dressing for festivals." Odd.
Still, marvelous song, Susan Terry is amazing in this role.
