The actress laying Kitty is Tessa Peake Jones, who is best know for marrying Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses. David Rintoul (Darcy) later starred in a remake of Dr Finlay. I don't know what happened to Elizabeth Garvie.
I love this version, too- I saw it when it was first aired on Masterpeice Theater in 1980 - at the time I was 19 years so I loved it, the costumes, etc. When the 1995 came around I was also impressed-I like them both- 1980 screenplay is closer to original book. If you want to see UGLY dresses, 2005 wins the prize - LIzzie looks so ugly in all those brown, drab dresses ans the her hairstyle is appalling - she wearly wears period bonnets or jewelry and looks more like servant. Flat-chested, too.
I don't like quite much the dresses, they seem too simple to me... anyway, it is teh only version i've seen so far where all teh girls really seem like sisters...
I adore this version ! It is closer to the novel and allows nothing to modern times tastes. I like very much the composed manners of actors's speaking and moving around, nothing to do with the brisky, noisy ones of modern versions. Darcy is exactly how I imagined him : proud and stiff, melting only in the end...Very nice also the soundtrack and the cartoons introducing to the story. Absolutely a great production to me !
