BETTA FISH- Lot's of people get a betta as their first fish. They are usually told they can live in little unfiltered, unheated bowls by their LFS and sold a tiny Betta tank which is incorrect info and a terrible setup for a betta. Betta's live in large rice paddies and may have to live in pools during the dry season but they don't prefer small tanks. Betta's can live in unheated tanks but they wont be as active and are more prone to disease, a heated tank is a must for a betta to thrive. Personally i consider a 10gal to be the minimum tank size but 5gal should be the bare minimum for a betta. Betta's are no different from any other tropical fish, they need a heater and a filter. Breeding betta's is a different story. Another thing, lots of people seem to think their saving a betta from the pet store and compare the little cup with their slightly bigger tank. Those cups are used because they can't keep multiple betta's in a tank so they rely on selling them before they die. By buying the betta your only encouraging this kinda stuff, your not saving it. Only buy betta's from shops that keep them in proper filtered tanks.
amazed the betta isn't going after the guppys...I tried the same with mine and he would rush them and flare like crazy.

@0828dawn Yeah iv never had such a timid betta! He has never flared at any of the fish... Every betta has diff personality.. my old betta was crazy, i couldn't out any fish with him, only bottom feeders.

Yeah i checked out your tank..! very nice. My Betta didnt eat my guppy fry.. Pretty much all of them survived! I Wouldn't count on ur betta eating the guppy fry... He might get some but most will survive..
