Why do you have a home network like this? What do you do with all that computing?

@josh2beefy I have 7 dl380's g6 with 6 core cpu and mostly 6 gigs, although one does have 12. It can do 48GB with udimm's but who has the cash for that crap?
I do have a dl380 g2 though, and it's still running with original drives in raid 5. That thing is a BEAST!

Nice rack you got there ;)
-
What do you use those servers for exactly?
-
now why the fuck do you need that in a HOME?
its like when u moved in ur wife was like....ok we gonna get a new fridge a washing machine and a data center yay
-
Can you tell me what brand of rack that is? I picked up two of them in the uk for £40 but one is missing two sides. I'm happy to run it as a bare chassis but would be nice to put some side on if i can find them.
Thanks Btw great rack!

All that hardware just to spy in on what who his wife and kids are talking to on the internet - tsk, tsk - so sad.

Drill them screw out. :) My PE 2600 is as loud as all of your equipment. It sucks really.

What is this for? You can sell those old ones and get a few NEW servers. The new ones will be green and using virtualization can do the work of several servers. Less energy consumption and noise, easier to install and manage, etc. I hope you're not using ancient servers for storage. They usually carry 74Gb drives. A Synology with four 3Tb drives can do the job for $1k. I'm not making fun of you. I'm just saying less is more.
The DL380 was a rock solid platform. I loved those things.

@deweys Yes they were, and most certainly still are. I still use a DL380 G2, DL380 G3 and a DL385 G1. Can't wait till I'm able to move all of this over to a single DL370 G6 tho ;)

Is there FC cards that have XP drivers that are not XP Pro?
startreking2007 1 year ago
@startreking2007 I've never had much occasion or any occasion for that matter to use a FC HBA in Windows XP. I suppose if you have your heart dead set on using one in XP you'll want to check the HBA manufacturers website for drivers. Chances are XP drivers arent out there, but you might be able to modify the 2003 version to work under XP.
