Jimmy Webb is behind some of the great hits of the 60s and 70s like Macarthur Park and Wichita Lineman. They are songs which were covered by others, but lately Jimmy has recorded his original songs his own way. After the interview we got him to play his version of Galveston, just him and a simple keyboard.

Jimmy Webb considers Glen Campbell the greatest singer. He has said many times, he often writes with Glen's voice in his mind. This is beautiful, but the orchestration that he himself writes to produce his songs on Glen's records adds a lot too. He is the greatest American songwriter ever!

Touching: the song, the performance, Mr Webb's musical-emotional wide-openness

This is beautiful, although I'm sure he'd have loved another take or two, but it's still powerful, moving stuff. I'm not for the Glen Campbell version, R.E.M. got closer to the sprit of the song, but Jimmy's own versions are the only ones that really count
