Since the early 1990s, doctors have seen a sixfold increase in plagiocephaly, or flattening of the head. One reason is that in 1994, pediatricians began recommending infants sleep on their backs to prevent SIDS, sudden infant death syndrome. Since then, the SIDS rate has been cut in half. But it has contributed to a much smaller problem of plagiocephaly. Dr. Craig Hobar, craniofacial specialists at Childrens Medical Center, offers tips on prevention and treatment.
