Course he could sing. His notes were so cleverly close to the off that to someone with no appreciation of his style, they sounded out of tune. Maybe sometimes when he had drink taken he didn't hit it right. I have never heard anyone that can sing in that style since.

Couse he could sing. He just had the great ability to sing his notes so close to the off, to a plank like you they sounded out of tune.

Every single person I ever played the first GUN CLUB album to, eventually went out and got it themselves! LOVED them--I met hem 2x, but it's never enough...

feels like years since they burned my heart away...
but seems like yesterday.
Utterly f**king magnificent. Thanks, Cypress.

peterpringle - point taken, like most of the true greats JLP was an anti-singer, but I defy you to listen to the original 'Promise Me' and deny that it's an unbelievably beautiful vocal performance. Cypress has nailed it though.

I have met JLP. We had a very long conversation after a gig in Rennes (France). I'm so happy to hear his music. But play by a man like you : you don't do covers, you re-invent the songs. Like the old bluesmen do... Or like Hank William etc. Your music sounds great !
