At 14:15 the penguins parade starts (weather permitting)

Gentoo penguins (Pygoscelis papua) are medium-sized penguins, about 76 cm in height and weighing an average of 5 Kg (11 lbs). They have the characteristic grey back and white belly of all penguin species with a broad white band stretching across the head from eye to eye...for more information http://www.edinburghzoo.org.uk/animals/individuals/GentooPenguin.html
All penguin species are found in the southern hemisphere. Gentoos can be found in the Falklands, South Georgia, Kerguelen, Marion, Macquarie and other remote islands and the Antarctic peninsula.

King penguins were one of the very first species to be kept at Edinburgh Zoo. They were first bred at the Zoo in 1919, which was the first captive breeding of this species anywhere in the world. For these reasons, a king penguin can be seen on the Zoo's logo and on the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland's crest...for more information http://www.edinburghzoo.org.uk/animals/individuals/KingPenguin.html

Rockhopper penguins (Eudyptes moseleyi) are native to Argentina, Australia, Chile, the Falkland Islands, and New Zealand. They are the smallest of the crested species of penguins. They have striking yellow crests on their heads and distinctive red eyes.

Rockhopper penguins are noisy and quarrelsome, and get their name from their ability to hop from rock to rock. They use a series of bounds with both feet together to climb steep rock faces and then reach their rocky nesting sites by hopping over the surrounding rocks. They breed in colonies and feed on krill and other crustaceans as well as on squid, octopus, and fish.

Rockhoppers were the stars of the film "Surf's Up" and also featured in "Happy Feet" where Lovelace was a rockhopper....for more information http://www.edinburghzoo.org.uk/animals/individuals/RockhopperPenguin.html
