[English Translation of the Lyrics]
WATER LILY (Suiren)
[I'm now just like] a water lily asleep in a moonlight night,
-- [because] you have disappeared into the sky.
I'm waiting for the morning
-- aimlessly wavering on the water.
Being in evening twilight,
-- I don't want to sleep quietly.
Still now I want to waver
-- under the light with which you are illuminating.
Though the rotating seasons don't know
-- the bottom of my heart,
Your heart makes me realize
-- the precious thing that never changes.
I find my way.
My wish that flew away will someday
-- reach to the sky where you stay, star lights.
So, I'll never forget the sky I looked up that day when I bloomed,
-- yes, everlastingly I will remember the good days.
Stars are seen at the openings in clouds.
Even for the time when we are separated,
-- in my heart, at the inner part of my bud
-- I'm thinking of you.
Though gradually as I'm living
-- I'll grow up to be an adult,
I won't leave the precious thing
-- that never changes. [I promise] to heart.
I find my way.
My wish that flew away will someday
-- shine in the sky where a dream stay, star lights.
So, I'll never forget the time when we laughed and shed tears,
-- yes, everlastingly I will remember the good days.
On the water surface that reflects
-- summer days having come to us,
-- both from now on and in far future
-- I'll never stop my dreams.
I find my way.
My wish that flew away will someday
-- reach to the sky where you stay, star lights.
So, I'll never forget the sky I looked up that day when I bloomed,
-- yes, everlastingly I will remember. True heart.
Unchangeably I play the music of feelings that passed away
-- on the surface of water in summer all the time, your light.
So, I'll never forget you and the sky I looked up on that day,
-- yes, everlastingly I will remember the good days.
Good days, good days.
[Note 1]
This song is contained in "Flower Festival" (March 2008 : a compilation CD album presented by Vision Factory) [AVCD16150]. The lyrics are written by Asuka HINOI & Takafumi HOSHINO. In her Radio Program Asuka explained that when she had written the lyrics, she had imagined someone whose precious person had died then who was in deep sorrow, and that water lily closes its flower in the evening (as if it were sleeping) but blooms again in the next morning, so she had represented such a woman (or man) as a water lily hoping to bloom again in future. ["Suiren (睡蓮)", which means "Water Lily" in Japanese, has the original meanig "Sleeping(睡) Lotus(蓮)". Because it is very similar to Lotus and it looks like sleeping at night.]
[Note 2]
In this translation I tried to translate as literally as possible. But in some passages I couldn't help translating freely. The particular cases are the passages that I translate "I will remember". In origenal (Japanese) sentences, there "I'll never forget" is repeated. If we translates it literally, the "yes" before this phrase will become an odd word, because there "yes" is used in a negative sentence. I tried to replace the "yes" with other word. But I couldn't, because doing so the nuance of original lyrics will be lost. The reason for it is concerning radical difference between the way of assent in Japanese and that in English. The explanation of this will be too long. So I want to omit it. I hope that the whole sentences became more natural for English than my former translation.
At 02:03: "(...) wasurenai kara...wasurenai kara Good days..."
Doesnt it mean: I won´t forget the good days" ?
Because you had written:
"I will remember the good days."
