Half mile long train, 43 HO scale cars, on my hilly layout. The 3 diesels are Bachmann GP38-2/GP40s, nothing special. The Bigboy is an Athearn Genesis, very powerful as you can see.

  • dumb question, but thats a scale half mile right?

  • Nope, my basement is a half mile wide. It is approximately 5 million square feet. I'm planning on opening a super wal*mart at one end of it, and will see how that goes.

  • its almost like Kicking Horse Pass

  • Thanks for the comment. I enjoyed reading all the history of Kicking Horse Pass. I had not heard of it before.

  • Where did You find the Angelina Neches River Railroad boxcar I got 3 of them I live 10 miles from that line.

  • I bought almost all of my rolling stock on ebay, over the past 2 years.

  • The grand funk railroad Sounds good doing a Little Eva song. I have a U28B Athearn NYC that I remotored with a Igarashi motor, its the only train in my roster that will pull 30 loaded cars without any wheel slippage. Incidently, the Igarashi motor is also the same motor that Broadway Limiteds use in all their locomotives. I used to think that Athearn produced a good motor until I had to order one from them, the Genesis line uses the same motor as Atlas, its a Roco motor.

  • @dafrandle , It depends on the engine. If the engine is really heavy, it could do it by itself, although the ones here are probly needed. Remember, it's only a 4 axle engine. A model Dash 9 could probly do it, but a model GP38-tough. Especially up hill. (In prototypical use, A GP38 has 2000 HP. A 30 car Consist isn't uncommon) Look up "CSX 8888." It was an unmanned train with a single SD40-2 (6 axle engine) pulling 47 cars with the brakes on at 15% for about 50 miles before it was stopped.

  • Hi. Your Bachman Engines, are they the cheapo's with the front axles powered, or the standard 8 axle drive and pickup? Those cheap ones would go so fast, they would fly off the tracks!

  • that music really makes it sweet. great work!

  • i have an ho scale train but not like this pone im mean mine is a circle/oval.

  • @stimpsonjc curios what the dimensions of the layout are. also wondering if each car was weighed to the scale weight. Cool video!

  • I got 2 of the Angelina & Neches River Railroad boxcars.

  • @stimpsonjc lawld

  • if the wheels arent magnetic im siprised it dosent trip unless theres a powered car every 10 rolling stock

  • If you have a 1/2 mile HO train running in your super Wal Mart I would go.
