MEIJER EASES THANKSGIVING DINNER BURDEN FOR GOODWILL INDUSTRIES CLIENTS WORKING TOWARD NEW JOBS
Meijer has donated 40 frozen turkeys to unemployed Metro Detroiters working to secure new jobs with help from Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit. Goodwill will deliver the turkeys in time for Thanksgiving dinner to Metro Detroit parents currently working toward employment in two of the job training and education programs operated by the organization. Goodwills sole mission is to help individuals in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties overcome employment challenges and secure jobs.

Some recipients will be trainees in Goodwills Flip the Script program, which engages Detroits young men in learning how to overcome devastating socio-economic circumstances and reconstruct their lives. Other recipients will be students in the Detroit Workforce Development Departments Hospitality Retail/Career Center, which is operated in partnership with Goodwill and is available to dislocated area workers.

Weve partnered with Goodwill in the Detroit area before and are always pleased to support their efforts, said Frank Guglielmi, director of public relations for the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer. Meijer has hired a number of Goodwill graduates and were proud to help others as they work their way through the programs.

The people in our employment programs work hard to overcome the challenges keeping them from earning jobs, said Lorna G. Utley, president and CEO, Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit. Meijers generous donation will help ease some of the financial burden of the holidays so Goodwill clients can focus on what really matters getting the skills and support they need to create better lives for their families.

In just the past two years, Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit has helped more than 2,000 people in Metro Detroit earn jobs through its education and training programs and has provided career assistance to thousands more throughout the region. The organizations mission is to help southeast Michigans unemployed become trained, trusted and ready to work.
