When I send my son out on Halloween as a white boy, I don't want anyone sayin' shit about his costume. He's the one in the suit and tie with a corn cobb up his ass.

How can you claim to be honoring someone when you are consistently ignoring/ disregarding their wishes?

@shontz49 I'm actually flattered you dressed your son as a white boy by dressing him in a suit. Very classy. Hehehe

@byrdslover16 someone had a great comment on another vid it went something like native american activists took away chief illiniwek, and a year later the official illini tribe gave back the right to have the chief perform once a year.. hhhhhmmmm... took something and gave it back.... i think there is a saying for that.....

@byrdslover16 Incorrect.. There is a training procedure in the process. Through the audition, and after, aswell as being the assistant and attending some of the games while you prepare to take on the mantle yourself.
The family had every right, especially as they requested it AFTER he was forcibly retired..

@byrdslover16 I really would like to see what process they went through. I state this, as they made a blanket statment, ban, and then allowed for appeals, instead of looking at things in a situational manner, thus giving a broader view. I am going of second hand information, but from what I understand I do not believe that it was given a fair shake, something like the report done for the University, well, would have been more accurate to both sides viewpoints I believe..
what song is that from 1:08 what team and the song name? if anyone know it would be greatly appreciated

@midgety1 - yes, it is performed by the University of Illinois band. It has no official title, although the drummers at the time called it "Indian".

In Memory of Michael and Vernon, add Fern Mathias of Southern California AIM to the list. At one protest when asked about the mascot issue, I remember her saying "Don't tell us that you are honoring us- we'll let YOU know when you honor us." Rest knowing that we carry on the fight!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I find these statements very interesting because last time I checked, all the Illiniwek tribe died at Starved Rock when the Ottawa fought them. So when you say that the U of I is trying to honor indians, that's because they are. And when you say that it belittles a culture and people's way of life, thats kind of hard considering all the Illiniwek are dead.
HAIL TO THE CHIEF!!!!!!!!!! ILL-INI!!!!

@glfrby310 - actually, that is not true. The Peoria tribe still exist in Oklahoma. They were part of the loose confederation that were referred to as the Illinois Indians (or some say Illiniwek)
