That fight that Paul Maguire was talking about may have been the start of the Bickering Bills that was the team moniker the next year. I think that there was some of that remaining in 1990, especially after they lost to Miami 30-7 in Week 2. But, after they came back in Week 4 against Denver and went on a winning streak, that was over, and it propelled them to four Super Bowls in a row.
I love the 49ERS I also like the Begals, great uniforms...back in the eighties, that is. If Billups had not dropped the ball, that would have been it for Montana's comeback. Never mind Wilson.
If Stanley Wilson didn't have his drug fiasco, and if Ickey doesn't get hurt in Week 2 in 1989, they may have been, at least, back in the AFC Championship against Denver the next year. At the time, I didn't think that it would take the Bengals until 2005 to win 10+ games again.
Actually, Sam got his start in Cincinnati as a back-up QB from the very start of the franchise. He left Cincy with Bill Walsh when Walsh was denied the head coaching spot with Cincinnati because he and Paul Brown couldn't see eye-to-eye over certain things. The West Coast offense was developed in Cincinnati and employed by Ken Anderson and Isaac Curtis first. Can you imagine if Walsh HAD become head coach in Cincy? Hands full of Super Bowl rings for everyone!

If Mike Brown had half the brain his father did, we would have at least a couple of trophies!

Blame it on the digital age.................The only major sport that is truly difficult to manipulate is baseball.

Man I didn't know Paul Brown was alive at that time, a true legend in the NFL. The coaching tree involving paul brown is simply amazing.
