PLEASE NOTE: September 7, 2011 -- The MiG-17 is returned to the Commemorative Air Force. This aircraft is no longer at Castle.

The Castle Air Museum rolls out display aircraft number 52, a Soviet designed, Chinese built, MiG-17 -- NATO Code: Fresco. The MiG-17 was a high-subsonic performance jet fighter produced by the USSR from 1952. It was armed with one 37mm cannon having 40 rounds and two 23mm cannon having 100 rounds. The aircraft had a single hard point on each wing for either a 50kg (110 lb) bomb or external fuel tank.

Many thanks to all who contributed on this effort!

  • It had an Iraqi flag on the tail. I really wonder what's the story behind it.

  • One of my FAVORITE PLANES!

  • Wait if this is a Chinese built version wouldn't that make it a Shenyang J/F-5?
