Today we are going to do an install of part number 118248 the T One connector from Tow Ready. It will be installed on our 2006 Toyota Highlander. To get to our access point which is about down here and underneath this panel. So we will have to roll back the carpeting and pull up the tray and gain access that way. Once you get everything out of the way it is pretty clear that this is the plug right here for the harness. So our T connector can plug right into here. Then our ground wire will actually mount to this ground bolt right here. We took our ground bolt out and we will simply install our ground wire here and run it back through there and install it. Next we will install the module box itself using the self adhesive tape that is on the backside of the connector.
We will hide it back in here in this cavity. Then we can string out our cable here and it is actually stored inside when it is not being used. The last thing we will have to do is install a fuse for our tow package. To install our fuse we will have to get underneath the hood to get to the fuse box here. Which is in this location right here where you will simply install the fuse. Back to the rear of the vehicle we are going to go ahead and zip tie all the loose wires in here into a wire bundle so we can keep everything nice and neat. Now we will go ahead and reinstall the interior. While we are reinstalling our interior there looks to be a little notch here. That is where we are going to push the wire into.
We will bring the leftover into the tray so it can be stored there. That is the install but now I am going to show you how to use it. You have to get back inside and pull your cover up and pull out the harness and leave it out by your hitch. Go ahead and shut the door on it because the door has plenty of wiggle room to make it work. That covers our install of part number 118248 the T One connector from Tow Ready. Installed on a 2006 Toyota Highlander.

@etrailertv : Thanks. I found a plug that I was able to cut a slice in and then pass the wire through, sealing with Duct Putty.

If you want to run the 4-way under and outside the vehicle, there are a few extra steps. Find an existing hole in the frame or drill an access hole to route wires from the harness out of the trunk. If you drill a hole, you will need a grommet to protect the wires once they are threaded through. Then cut the wire of the harness in half. Take the half with the 4-way and thread wires from the outside back through the hole. Reconnect cut wires inside the vehicle. This will void the harness warrenty.

Can you not install the wire so that it is located externally under the hitch? I hate having the wire go through the tailgate.
