It should be the happiest days of their lives, but birth in DRC sees many mothers mourning the death of their new child. The International community says they will tackle the issues, but the problem is where to start.
There are 3 doctors for more than 140,000 inhabitants here in the Bandudu province. Pregnant women place their lives in God's hands as they prepare to give birth. A lot of women in the villages die because of the lack of medical skills. Sister Ria has run her hospital for 33 years. She tries desperately to teach others the correct way of treating expectant mothers and babies; That's not the right way. Cut the umbilical cord, hurry. Can't you see the child's suffering? After treating yet another young mother, Ria tries to convince them that enoughs enough; Listen to me. I'm telling you 3 children is plenty. She won't survive another child. Do you understand? People like Sister Ria and foreign financial aid are the only hope for the women of Congo. A shocking and powerful report on Congo's primitive medical infrastructure, disturbing images out of touch with the modern world.

It's too easy to sit comfortably in your computer chair, looking out into the world through a computer screen -- and then do nothing about what you see. I think that if the Pope is telling them not to use condoms that he should foot the bill for the pregnancies and help these people. They definitly need better medical facilities and better prenatal care. This is a shame that people have to live this way. Those children are beautiful and deserve a chance at a life.

wow... that was so sad. I had no idea conditions were like that. I want to join the Peace Corps and teach English, but I don't know what to expect. That was certainly something far worse than what I expected. I mean, pushing on the pregnant woman's stomach to help with the birthing process? Leaf supplementaries? man oh man... Serious respect goes out to the Belgian woman there teaching people to become nurses.

racenemo u are fucking ignoring here blood transfusion is safe they test the donor before transfusiion take a place when they bloods of donor turns to be healthy then they gave her blood longtime it wasnt safe but now is the safe because right now u are talking with someone who receive blood and im healthy i dont have any sick i even get married and have 5 kids and always my health is very very healthy i dont have any kind of sick and now it pass almost 18 years
