More than 80 years after the discovery of penicillin, Katie Couric previews an upcoming CBS News investigation on antibiotics in factory farming and the effect on future resistance in humans.
So in other words as long as the industry is making money Fuck the health consequences after all if sick big pharma will take a big chunk of the price its good for the economy. (corporate America)
The FDA approved penicillin and tetracycline in 1951 for animals and producers are still using these products to fight bacteria. Does'nt sound like a resistance has built up to me.
it's possible to pass diseases from human to animal or from animal to human. it might be completely harmless to human but deadly to animal, vise versa
i hope CBS news understand what they are putting on national televison and on the world wide web....they never use facts ...katie just says "experts" - there is no source...who are these experts? im dying to know...you need to watch the NATIONAL PORK ASSOCIATION'S video it is very educational and they use facts...im not trying to say everything about antibiotics in livestock is great but lets use facts and real science here not what some lady on the news says..
Billiam before you pull the science card... know your facts. On a 1200 head of swine we give about one table spoon. NOT one tablespoon each..just one tablespoon divided by 1200. This works out to be 2 or 3 grains of sand each. With my PHD in animal science I have studied this and wrote many reports on this subject long before this broad reported it on the news. MERSA is found most commonly in hospitals and the odds of you getting MERSA from a porkchop are 1 / 1.5 billion. know your facts billiam
Antibiotics in animals has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with resistance in the American people....you think if i give a pig some medicine on a monday then it goes to the slaughter house wednesday after it is fired in a 300 degree fire then frozen then fired again...that antibody is still in there? lets say it is..the small dose of which would remain would do absolutely nothing to us...

It seems llke none of these people realize you can't get the same bacteria and diseases as livestock. Its impossible. Two totally different strands.
