Carcassonne was around in the medieval times about the 18th century. The modern city is built around two medieval cities. Though the city is small it is the largest medieval city with its walls still intact. Many of us would be surprised to discover that Carcassonne is the setting for many movies with medieval castles in them. Carcassonne is a major tourist attraction in southern France. Before Carcassonne was seized by France from Raymond Roger Trencave the ruler at the time its name was Carcassonna karkasawnuh. In the later years Raymond Rogers son attempted to regain his inheritance but failed. Involuntarily the city submitted to the rule of the kingdom of France.
