This is a presentation of the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, specifically on homosexuality, marriage, and the family by Fr. Michael Rodriguez, to help dispel the false idea that this is about 'personal opinion' and actually is Church teaching.Unfortunately, one of the biggest problems within the Catholic Church today is dissent from Church teaching. There is dissent from Church teaching even at the highest levels of the hierarchy. It is indisputable that the main content of Fr. Rodriguez's presentation on homosexuality is Catholic Church teaching, to which every single Catholic must give assent. A few sources which all Catholics ought to consult regarding the Catholic Church's official teaching regarding marriage, including the particular topic of homosexuality, are the following:
Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered." They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved. (#2357)
This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. (#2358)
Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection. (#2359)
Catechism of the Catholic Church
Pope Leo XIII, Arcanum Divinæ (1880), papal encyclical on Christian Marriage
Pope Pius XI, Casti Connubii (1930), papal encyclical on Christian Marriage
Pope John Paul II Familiaris Consortio by (1981), apostolic exhortation on the role of the Christian Family in the Modern World.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church (esp # 2201 -2213 and 2357-2359)
"Considerations Regarding Proposals to Give Legal Recognition to Unions Between Homosexual Persons" by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (June 3, 2003)
"Some Considerations Concerning the Response to Legislative Proposals on the Non-Discrimination of Homosexual Persons" by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (July 22, 1992)
"Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons" a Letter to the world's bishops issued by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (October 1, 1986)
Persona Humana, "Declaration on Certain Questions Concerning Sexual Ethics" by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (December 29, 1975)
A pastoral letter by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops entitled "Marriage: Love and Life in the Divine Plan" (November 17, 2009)
A man and a woman united in marriage, together with their children, form a family. This institution is prior to any recognition by public authority, which has an obligation to recognize it. (#2202)
The importance of the family for the life and well-being of society entails a particular responsibility for society to support and strengthen marriage and the family. Civil authority should consider it a grave duty to acknowledge the true nature of marriage and the family, to protect and foster them, to safeguard public morality, and promote domestic prosperity. (#2210) Catechism of the Catholic Church
To understand why it is necessary to oppose legal recognition of homosexual unions, ethical considerations of different orders need to be taken into consideration. [6].
Society owes its continued survival to the family, founded on marriage. The inevitable consequence of legal recognition of homosexual unions would be the redefinition of marriage... The denial of the social and legal status of marriage to forms of cohabitation that are not and cannot be marital is not opposed to justice; on the contrary, justice requires it. [8]
It is true that all Catholics are obliged to oppose the legal recognition of homosexual unions; Catholic politicians are obliged to do so in a particular way, in keeping with their responsibility as politicians. [10]
Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (the highest doctrinal authority of the Catholic Church directly beneath the Pope) in a document entitled "Considerations Regarding Proposals to Give Legal Recognition to Unions Between Homosexual Persons" (June 3, 2003)
Also the beginning part of the catechism regarding homosexuality said "basing itself on sacred scripture...". Do you mind listing ALL of the scriptures the catechism is referring to? Thanks.

@TruAgape123 Response #8 The great saints, Fathers of the Church and Doctors of the Church (e.g. St. Augustine, St. Jerome, St. Thomas Aquinas and others) are those who have understood the Bible most completely on account of the grace God has given them. Thus, we must learn from them as well. (6) In conclusion, it is never a matter of me just picking up a Bible and reading this or that verse to get an answer.

@TruAgape123 Response #9 Rather, my goal must be to know Jesus Christ (and so I am working hard at that in all areas of my life), I must be praying to the Holy Ghost, and then I read the Bible in harmony with the Catholic Church and under the guidance of the great Fathers, Doctors, and Saints of the Church. That addresses point #1 in the opening sentence. As for point #2, it is not possible to list ALL passages because man does not know the mind of God.

@TruAgape123 Response #10 To think any human can make an exhaustive list of ALL God's teaching on any matter is to fail to recognize the infinite and eternal wisdom of God. Because it is the word of God, the Scriptures will always help us penetrate deeper into truths and mysteries of God, but never exhaust them.

@TruAgape123 Response #11 All we can do is list some passages in which we clearly recognize that God is teaching us with regards to human sexuality and by extension, that homosexual acts are gravely immoral, disordered, and intrinsically evil. Yet again, we direct all readers to the above paragraph with regards to how the Scriptures must be read and understood, otherwise it is all too easy to misinterpret the sacred word of God.

@TruAgape123 Response #12 We will send the list and further readings to your inbox in the form of a pdf file because there is no room for it here,(and we'll send it to anyone interested who contacts us), but we encourage you to read the Bible in its entirety and also the Fathers, Doctors and Saints of the Church in order to find many more passages which manifest God's eternal, immutable, true and loving Law regarding the gift of human sexuality that He has bestowed upon us.
