An adaptation of Eugene O'Neill's play. As an updated Greek tragedy, the film features murder, adultery, love and revenge. All taking place after the American Civil War.

It's the long version of the film. It stars Rosalind Russell, Michael Redgrave & Katina Paxinou.

@squeapler I think she's suppose to be French. Only reason I think that is because when she says goodbye to her father, she says it in French or something like it. JMO

I saw the movie last night on TCM. She says to her husband at a point that he was cold, harsh, and without the compassion she needed, something to that effect. She found it in Adam the sea Captain.

I don't understand the mother's accent, since there is no explanation about where she is from, how she got the accent, how she ended up in Boston. It's also very confusing as to why she hates her husband so much. One would think she didn't like sex, except that she seems in a big rush to run off and presumably fool around with a younger man.
