  • I have a beautiful OLD norwegian horizontal wheel. It also has to be turned by hand. SO, I am thinking that I can use basically the same one-handed draft technique that you do. Also, the point is sitting in a cradle, but it looks like the yarn can still be pulled off the point. I could email you a picture. yours is the only video that does not treadle, and it is very clear. Thank you so much!

  • @christi1945 Ooh yes please do send a photo, it sounds really interesting!

  • thank you so much for this most informative video yet on spinning on the great wheel. Thanks to your video, I just finished construction of my own "great wheel"

Ooh great news about the new wheel. Is there any way you can show me pictures or a clip of it in action, I'd be very interested!

  • Where can I buy a cotton wheel??

  • @000Winter000

I'm sure there must be modern as well as the occasional original great wheel available in the USA or Canada. Try a google search using the terms 'Great Wheel', Walking Wheel', 'Wool Wheel' (they weren't just used for cotton!) or even 'Charkha', you are bound to come up with something.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi again,

I think I've persuaded my freind to have a go at dyeing up a small amount of cotton for you! If you visit my website mandacrafts.co.uk, and click the link to email me, I'll put the two of you in touch!

  • @Spin2Weave

Ooh lovely, I sometimes wish I had an old one, but I wouldn't have anywhere to keep it. The cotton was dyed by a friend of mine, I'll ask if she has any for sale and get back to you

  • Love the cotton sliver you're spinning. The colors are amazing. Is it availble commercially? Your wheel is beautiul. My great wheel is very old - from the Southern US and dates from the mid 1800. I love it, but it is not portable.
