@samosammo123 most people on the planet have great grandfathers who died in ww1 thats how terrible that battle was
-
My Grandad fought at the Somme, I asked him once if he knew any Heros in the Great War. He thought for a moment then said, "Yes, One, he was a conscientious objector, they beat him up badly, but he still said, No!"

After all that the English let there country go.
-
But we are also breeding so fast there will be no space on Earth left, wars do have their uses.
-
I feel really bad for the guy who had to sell his Victoria cross to make ends meet. And for all veterans who had to do the same thing.

Read a book called .."War is a Racket." by a WW1 veteran Smedley D. Butler U.S. Marine Major General.
After teaching military history for three decades, I often grow mournful studying the ways our species kills each other.
Carl Sagan:
Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. Consider again that 'dot', that's here, that's home, that's us. The earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood, spilled by all those generals and emperors, so that in glory and triumph they can become the momentary masters...
...of a fraction
...of a dot.

@Biertourist
I understand your comment, my great grandfather died on the somme to german shell fire.
After the battle, the allies had gained quite a considerable amount of land and if this battle had never happened, it would have taken longer for the allies to improve tactics and tank tactics.
