  • Absolute rubbish. As long as the drug companies are in charge there will be NO CURE for anything.

  • @MumblingMickey I'd oppose anything that destroys a fertilized egg. I never said I wouldn't.

  • @rt36crazyfists The religious fundamentalist suffers by having to recognize that not everyone shares in their crazy assed ideas.

But no fear, all you need to do there is ensure that you get to politicians with 'vote' threats before anyone advises them of the science involved.

Using that same idea you can practically halt any discovery... but that's okay, I'm in Europe...so what America loses due to fuckwhackery is easily made up for by offering an alternative place to carry out research.

  • @DozerfleetProd So you'd clearly have a major problem with contraception then? say for example the IUD (otherwise known as the coil).

Wouldn't your time arguing be better spent objecting to the sale of IUD devices? In total so far maybe a handful of either unfertilized cells or externally fertilized cells have been used in research... but there are tens of millions of IUD devices which result in the destruction of millions of fertilized eggs every month.

    Perhaps a little priority calculation?

  • @DozerfleetProd I think you'll find that generally speaking most people just aren't bothered by what american religious people with no knowledge of science have to say on the matter. Informed opinion perhaps, uninformed opinion, not a chance.

At the moment you think these embryos come from aborted fetuses, which is ludicrous.

...and you'd expect someone to take your opinion seriously? FYI ESCR cells are created outside a woman, there is zero chance they can be a child.

  • @DozerfleetProd Depends on what you mean by human life.. as it stands already we probably have the theoretical biotechnology to create a human being from any cell in the human body (with the exception perhaps of red blood cells)

ie. we know how to do it but lack the technology.

    Those are human...

Or do you mean only very specific cells?

This NEW method isn't that new... I think you are conflating ethics with religious doctrine. The two are not the same. Or even similar.

  • @DozerfleetProd And if there were actually destroyed embryos you might have a point.

But cultured cells in a lab that can't actually ever become a human being aren't exactly a reason to have an ethical or moral debate over.... a religious debate...fair enough... but you can't expect anyone that does not share those beliefs to be bothered listening.

and they won't either... you are still perfectly free to insist on not using any discoveries that result from stem cell research.

  • @MumblingMickey Destroyed embryos are a crapshoot deal with the devil. You kill another human being, and it MIGHT pay off and kill the illness. Or it MIGHT give you a useless tumor. Embryonic stem cell research is little more than playing Russian Roulette with child-sacrifice-powered guns.

  • @MumblingMickey Actually, the religious have no problem with stem cell research so long as human life isn't destroyed and harvested. It's that question of "what happens to the soul?"

The reason that ESCR is taking so long to die when this new method works so much better is because the American Left is desperately running out of arguments to defend abortion. As long as there is ESCR, abortion will be a protected practice. And if that's so, Planned Parenthood will still exist.
