This guide should help you if you're new to this, or if you're having any kind of problems when it comes to performing vocals.

Remember to check out the rest of the series. If I don't answer your question, it has already been answered in another episode. :)

  • Trying to pitch up... Really difficult.

  • @TonyThrash94 Don't try to pitch the distortion up. That doesn't work. Just pitch your clean voice up, while keeping your voice distorted.

  • Where can i find a power metal vocal tutorial?

  • @darthd95 Most likely at google. I would recommend getting a coach for that though, to be honest!

  • @SiervoDeOdin Exhale of course. I don't even know anyone who can genuinely growl with inhales. :p

  • If only I could find a place to try it with power. ;_;

  • im practising growling abt 2 months bt my volume is low. in low diaphragm pressure the disortion remains bt when i push to increase the volume the distortion dissapears. is it gona raise with practise nd how shld i practise as a beginner.

  • The angry sigh approach , I feel like it's just phlegm, is that right?

  • Hey awesome videos man! One quick question though, can Opeth-style vocals be achieved using the crying-baby technique?

  • thank you lol now my vocal cords don't hurt nearly as bad, it really hurts when you try to do maniac's vocals from mayhem....

  • Your metal attitude is very prominent. It had me laughing through most of the video. Great job by the way! I've never really been able to explain it to someone when they ask me. And for those who wish they had a place to practice... go to gas station, get something to drink, and practice on the way to work. ;)

  • Best vocal video I've seen so far :)

  • It still hurts :(

  • Sorry, screwed the first one up. That was for @Bludhoundz8

  • @Blidhoundz8 Richard uses a technique called false chord. This basically means he is using his lower vocal chords (yes, people have two sets of vocal chords, you use the lower ones when you whisper) and pushes air through them in order to create his powerful sound. If you want to know more, feel free to contact me. I even have Richards email address if you need it.

  • Wow, I've been approaching not only lower vocals, but all my vocals completely wrong. I can do a sort of black metalish scream, but only by tightening the crap out of my throat and tasting blood 15 minutes in. I do tend to take things too technically but I was wondering if you had any tips or excersises for loosening your vocal cords? Whenever I try to get something right, even with my guitar at times, I'll over think it and tense up. Do I just need to try to relax or does it come with practice?
