So, as a lot of you know, Maclay finals didn't go great. I was on my way to the second round when I really screwed up, I just gave up. I ended up getting two refusals and being disqualified. But, WHO CARES? I made it to MACLAY FINALS!
See, I have this problem. I strive for perfection. I strive to have no mistakes, and to be able to be pleased with every single one of my rounds. But I've learned something... you can't be perfect, and you cannot expect perfection. But you can set expectations, but just smaller ones. But then you complete them and get cocky.. but what's wrong with that? (Said by Jeff Teal) Don't be afraid to mess up; don't be afraid to show your mistakes.
The video says, "Good things come to those who work harder, longer..." Well, maybe he doesn't mean prizes. Maybe, working hard brings us something that raw talent and luck can't, a feeling of accomplishment. If every day, you've worked your ass off and you've put your heart into it, that's enough. Whether the ribbons come or not, be happy. Be happy for the friendships you've made along the way, the bonds, and the character you've built up.
People don't judge you by your wins; they judge you by your smile. Every person you meet will NOT know what you have or have not accomplished in life, but they will know what kind of a person you are. And it's so simple to be a good one; you just have to smile when you have every reason to cry.
WHO GIVES A SHIT about the stupid 8 cent ribbon you can win. It's what you LEARN from the ribbon, what came out of it, and the memory behind it. And you can walk home without a ribbon or with the championship, but if you had fun doing it, and you put in your all, you'll walk out with the same memory.
Remember why you started, and remember the drive that got you to where you are today.

Trust me, I feel your pain. I had a refusal at the ASPCA Maclay National Finals in Kentucky this year. At first I was bummed, but since then I've stopped feeling sorry for myself. I'm not someone who gets to show back east regularly so getting to go to the National Horse Show was just exciting in itself. Looking back, I hope that I'll just be impressed by the fact that I got there in the first place. Like you, I'm not a 100% perfect 100% of the time and yes, occasionally I fall off, so sue me!

@DMM24100 exactly, we just need to remember that everything should be looked at as a big deal, whether its winning a class with 4 people in it or 70. This sport is always hard, so no matter what happens, you just have to be happy
