This caprice is titled "When Mandolins Dream" and is featured as the intro of his instructional mando video (he was 14-16 yrs old or so..). Yes, this is SICK. A very sweet classical piece and much of it is so hyper-speed and smooth that it is almost warrants classifications as another 'classical element'.
When i get discouraged, and want to give up on the mandolin, all i have to do is listen to this Man play music, and my desire is renewed. Chris Thile is not just a great mandolin master, He is an encouragement to all mandolinist.
soft picking and great tone is achieved through extensive practice , but .... a Dudenbostel like that helps a lot....no matter how good you are , if you haven't got a good sounding mandolin to boost it , it won't work out right....
@ChevyToughRebel A friend of mind who has an ensemble mate who knows Thile says he practices ... a numbing 8 hours a day. He's young though. You can do things like that when you're young and healthy. That would give me tendinitis of the fingers and hand so badly that I'd be crippled! What a wonderful piece of music this is. Never heard it before. Plop, right in the favorites.
Best listened to with eyes closed. Incredible.
