hey i wonder if you can use the carbon byproduct in the filter?

Wow, thanks guys! That was hilarious and very educative. Hope you post many more on the project. Any idea how best to very cheaply cool the gas? Thanks again, and keep up the quality.

The site for the open source plans seemed to be down. do you have anther resource for open source plans to build the wood gasifier? thanks

Gents, thank you very much for putting this up. Very inspirational and educational. Hope the rest of the Youtube population will take this up and improve the system.
P.S. Nice to know you all have a good sense of humour too.

Thank you much, one more thing, is there methanol (poison) distillate in this woodgas, or other woodgases? Thanks for your time,
Ben
isnt it better to create a system to blow rather then suck, so that crap doesnt have to pass by the fan and foul it up.
SO there are things in the wood that cant be use for fuel? how does the filter distinguish between fuel and impurities? or are the impurities just the fuel which hasnt been turned into a gas for what ever reason and have become airborne
IS the gas cooled so it becomes more dense and has more energy per given volume?

@treborly,
Putting the fan on the front end works too... if you have any leaks (which you shouldn't) the system leaks syngas into the room (bad). If the fan (or engine) is installed after the filters, it stays pretty clean.
We are filtering tar, water and ash. The fuel-gas, or syn-gas is app 20% hydrogen & 20% carbon monoxide, which easily passes thru the filters.
And yes, the gas cooled from 450F to 70F does take up less volume and therefore has a higher BTU content per Cu Ft.
Cheers,
Greg

Ok, I see how it is filtered now, I am wondering if the methanol fuel alchohol would distill itself inside the filter barrel, and not be in vapors for the engine?
Great video,
Ben.

Hi Ben,
We're planning on using a gas to liquid condenser/heat exchanger to pre-cool the syn-gas as it exits the gasifier, and remove any water vapor and hopefully tar too.
We discovered the closer to capacity the gasifier was run, the better the quality of syn-gas; less water vapor and tar.
We're thinking to use bio-diesel in an oil bath filter, if necessary to remove any impurities. Hopefully this is not necessary, as simple is better. KISS
Thank for the kind remarks,
Greg
