Featured on Tori's cover album, Strange Little Girls.

Here: an exercise in choice. Your choice. One of these tales is true.

She lived through the war. In 1959 she came to America. She now lives in a condo in Miami, a tiny French woman with white hair, with a daughter and a grand-daughter. She keeps herself to herself and smiles rarely, as if the weight of memory keeps her from finding joy.

Or that's a lie. Actually the Gestapo picked her up during a border crossing in 1943, and they left her in a meadow. First she dug her own grave, then a single bullet to the back of the skull.

Her last thought, before that bullet, was that she was four months' pregnant, and that if we do not fight to create a future there will be no future for any of us.

There is an old woman in Miami who wakes, confused, from a dream of the wind blowing the wildflowers in a meadow.

There are bones untouched beneath the warm French earth which dream of a daughter's wedding. Good wine is drunk. The only tears shed are happy ones.

  • I'm a Slayer fan from '84...this is a great version of the song. Bleak and full of despair, it captures the spirit of the song wonderfully

  • This is fucking haunting and bleak. Love it.

  • Tori,(as much as a bitch as she is) Kills it and I love the dark angst she spews. God bless her for feeding the darkness in all of us.

  • I'm a metalhead and I didn't expect the cover to be so hauntingly beautiful.

  • @therealpapervandal First, you did not name a single thrash metal band in your short three band list, that kind of makes me raise an eyebrow. And second, I find it funny that you mention satan worship as a derogatory statement while being a fan of Dimmu Borgir, a band influenced heavily by satanic black metal if not satanic themselves. My final statement will be that I do not like most of Slayer's music, but I am capable of voicing my opinions in a way that's less demeaning.

  • @therealpapervandal

i don´t think they really worship satan you ignorant asshole

  • My brain is full of fuck. I'm a metalhead, I like Slayer, I like Tori Amos, and I actually like this cover. None of this stops the fuck overflowing from my brain.

  • slipknot is pathetic compared to real bands who formed a generation for bands like them to succeed, the only good album they put out is their first one the rest is commercial BS

  • @slipiknot3000 Slayer is pretty pathetic compared to many bands.

  • I have to say, after reading the comments, some Slayer fans are just plain retarded. This song is not so much a cover than a re-interpretation of the song from a female perspective, that is what it is - period. I like metal music (older In Flames, Dimmu Borgir, Tool, etc), but I also value other music as well, like Tori Amos, Depeche Mode, etc. I like music, not one type of music. Slayer, in my experience are for pretentious twerps who worship satan cause daddy didn't love them enough.

  • Amazing. Those Slayer guys don't do a bad job covering this either

  • this is so fuckin evil, more evil then the original. try to put this into a horror movie. it will then be the best horror movie ever.
