Sparks Fly: A Zameron One Shot

The sound of rain tapping on our window was the only sound I could hear as I sat alone in our house, curled up by the fireplace. I stared at the flickering flames as I threw another log into the fire, sending sparks into the air. I hummed to myself and played with my fingers, trying to avoid the pain in my heart.
The previous day, my boyfriend had broken up with me. He was moving to New York to start his new job and didn't wanna be held back by a boyfriend he'd never see. It was hard to watch him walk away, even harder to sleep that night without him next to me, and unbearably hard for me to accept the fact that he was really gone.
Just then, I heard the sound of a car pull up to our house as the rain became thunderously loud and lights flashed across the window. I jumped up from our couch and gazed out the window to see a familiar car outside. Dropping the blanket I had wrapped around myself, I rushed outside without even bothering to grab an umbrella.
Cameron met me halfway up our walkway, standing only inches away. "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be on your way to New York?"
He shook his head violently and stepped forward so that we were chest to chest, wrapping his arms around my waist. "I couldn't do it, Zach. I couldn't just leave you behind, no job is worth it."
We smiled in unison as Cameron leaned down and brought his lips to mine. I roped my fingers through his hair and watched the lights go wild as the sparks flew.
When we pulled away, I tugged on his arm and brought him into the house. I was back in Cameron's arms immediately after the door slammed shut behind us. Our lips touched once more before he led me up the staircase and to our bed.
